World Climate Day: the golden rules of good hair care

World Climate Day, on December 8, is the opportunity to remember that global warming is a real threat to our planet and that we can all make a difference at our own level to limit its effects.

The environmental impact of beauty products

Soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorants, perfumes… On a daily basis, we all use many beauty products. In France, it seems that around 650 shampoo and conditioners are sold every minute. These products affect the environment throughout their life cycle, from the design phase to manufacturing, sale, and use.

The manufacturing process for conventional beauty products involves using a number of synthetic chemical and petrochemical substances. These ingredients, in addition to often being harmful to our skin and hair, have a very negative effect on the environment. The production of hair care products contributes to CO2 emissions, soil pollution, and groundwater contamination. In addition, some chemical pesticides are used to manufacture shampoo. These can unbalance and damage biodiversity.

And that’s not all!

Using conventional beauty products is also problematic. When you rinse your hair, these shampoos, conditioners, and other products end up in wastewater. Unfortunately, some products contain non-biodegradable ingredients and water pollutants. As a result, water becomes polluted and the marine fauna is endangered by toxic ingredients.

Lastly, waste is also a real problem. Bottles and other packaging are mostly made of plastic and account for a considerable amount of waste, especially when they are not recyclable.

What solutions are there?

In response to these environmental issues, more and more manufacturers are opting for and prioritizing alternative solutions. Natural ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, solid shampoo… It is now possible to find high-quality hair care products that are environmentally friendly.

100% natural shampoos

No more silicons, sulfates, parabens, and other chemical ingredients!

Natural organic shampoos are on the rise, and for a good reason. They are gentler on our skin and hair, but also better for the environment. These shampoos, made from natural ingredients, are much

less toxic to the environment. What’s more, no petrochemical or chemical products are required to make them, making the manufacturing process itself less polluting. Therefore, sulfate-free, silicone-free, and paraben-free shampoos are one of the best solutions to help protect the environment.

Eco-designed packaging

At ELENATURE, we use eco-designed packaging, specially developed to respect and protect the environment.

It is made to observe the three “Rs” rule: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

All of our bottles and jars had a life before becoming a bottle of shampoo, for example, and they will have another life afterward since they are made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic. They are also designed to have no additional packaging in order to create zero waste. Furthermore, our suppliers are located in Europe and our products are made in France to reduce our carbon footprint. And that’s not all! Our products come with a pump or dropper system to deliver just the right dose, avoiding waste.

Solid shampoo

Over the past few years, conventional shampoos have been facing competition from solid shampoos. Unlike “classic” shampoos, the composition of solid shampoos requires much less water. They don’t need any chemical preservatives and are usually only made of active ingredients. They have many advantages: their solid format gives them a longer shelf life, while the absence of chemical ingredients makes them eco-friendly and less polluting products, which produce less waste.
